Jul 08, 2015 I have Mac OS X Yosemite version 10.10.3 When I open up Coolterm it can´t seem to find the right serial-port. I´ve been spending this whole day browsing the internet for answers and there seems to be a problem with OS X Yosemite when it comes to this. I have tried a lot of different drivers and sudo code to get around this problem. I had recently updated my MacBook Pro to OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) from 10.8 (Mountain Lion), but my uderstanding is that support for the FTDI chipset was added in 10.9 (Mavericks), which I skipped. Virtual usb drive mac os. I cannot confirm no need to install drivers with versions before Yosemite, but I do hereby confirm that no drivers needed to be installed with Yosemite. May 18, 2016 Although OS X comes with a signed FTDI driver, for some reason it won't pick up on the unsigned Navigator driver; but by installing the FTDI-provided drivers it does pick up the device definitions and works just fine. These steps work for the Navigator, but YMMV with West Mountain products. FTDI USB Driver and Mavericks This instruction affects everyone using Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks and Little Weaver or Compu-Dobby IV. With Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks, Apple has broken the FTDI USB driver that is used by Compu-Dobby IV and Little Weaver. Fortunately, there is an easy fix.

Differences in Driver API
For most of these operating systems two types of driver are available: Virtual COM Port (VCP) drivers and direct (D2XX) drivers. The VCP driver emulates a standard PC serial port such that the USB device may be communicated with as a standard RS232 device. The D2XX driver allows direct access to a USB device via a DLL interface.

To locate the drivers you want to install for a device, select which of the driver types you wish to use (VCPor D2XX) and then locate the appropriate operating systems. With the exception of Windows 98 and Windows ME, all devices are supported in each driver package.
If a VCP driver is required for Android please refer to the following application note: TN 132 Adding FTDI Devices VCP Driver Support to Android
